Chavez switch
•
WITH Thai Sirimongkol Singmanasak pulling out
injured from a planned March 22 defence against
Jesus Chavez, promoters Top Rank will try to match the
Tex-Mex against another challenger for the interim belt
to preserve the pay-per-view show (Sky will televise
delayed in Britain).
The rest of the Las Vegas card is, after all, extremely
appealing with IBF straw-weight champ Miguel Barrera
defending against old foe Roberto Levya and former
WBC lightweight champ Jose Luis Castillo taking on
Julio Diaz.
Title countdown
NEXT Wednesday (February 12) is the deadline
for purse bids to decide where and when Dean
Francis boxes Matthew Barney for the vacant
British super-middleweight title, also Howard
Eastman versus Plymouth southpaw Scott Dann for
the domestic title a weight down.
THE chief criticism of Audley
Harrison has been whether the
quality of opponents he has faced
in seven of his eight pro bouts has
been good enough to feature in nationallytelevised
main events.
Carney Cook appeal
FITZROY LODGE boss Mick Carney is very keen t o f i nd an opponent for
Tommy Cook, born April 1984, 50 kgs, and o n e w i n f r om t w o bouts. The club

BELFAST bricklayer Kevin O'Hara (9st 11b 13oz) won a contest of
former Commonwealth Games representatives when he demolished
Balham debutant Jus Wallie (9st 4 3/4lbs) in 89 seconds of round two.
It was scheduled for four.
Wallie is actually a Sri Lankan, Walisundara Mudiyanselage, who lost in
the first series of last year's Games in Manchester to Canadian Benoit
Gaudet. For a round he looked a sharp, southpaw boxer.
He outjabbed O'Hara, who lost in his opening bout in Manchester to the
Welshman Peter Ashton. In round two, though, O'Hara, now 2-0 (2), found
the answer in the shape of a perfectly-timed right to the chin that dropped
Wallie for eight.
