CHRIS EUBANK'S old
trainer Ronnie Davies
has taken on 19-year-old
former Junior ABA finalist
LIAM LATHBURY, vyrho's
expected to make his debut in
September.
Lathbury, from Chippenham,
is quietly gathering experience
in the gyms, sparring the likes
of Mark Baker and Howard
Eastman.
His father Martin tells me
Lathbury is going to spar with
Joe Calzaghe shortly. "It's a
lot of travelling, but worth it,"
he says.
Lathbury, 5ft 11 in, has been
boxing since he was 11 and is
a middleweight. He's reputed
to be a big puncher.
ADEAL has reportedly
been agreed
whereby Lennox
Lewis, if successful
against Michael Grant
next month, will defend
against WBA No. 1 John
Ruiz at Earis Court,
London on July 15 in
order to avoid being
stripped by the latter
organisation.
Evander Holyfield,
who was to have boxed
Ruiz in Las Vegas on a
pay-per-view show on
June 3, will presumably
box someone else, but
the WBA have yet to
make an official statement.
Holyfield is keen to
continue boxing, having
settled his divorce from
wife Janice.
F lORTY-FOUR days after being
' annihilated in two rounds by
Mike Tyson in front of 21,000
people, Julius Francis returned to the
smdl-hall curcuit to lose his British
heavyweight title to a much lesserknown
Mike, Manchester's Michael
Holden.
