PAUL RETURNS
BERNARD PAUL, former Commonwealth lightwelterweight
champion, is coming back.
The Tottenham puncher, stopped by Ricky Hatton
last time out, faces Glenn McClamon over either
eight or 10 rounds at York Hall, Bethnal Green on
April 1.
Main event on the show, which also features
Steve Roberts and Richard Williams in separate
fights, is the vacant Commonwealth bantamweight
title fight between Francis Ampofo and Ady
Lewis. The latter fight could also be for the vacant
British title now Noel Wilders has won the IBO crown.

RICKY HATTON, the unbeaten Manchester light-welter
of whom great things are expected, gets a live one at the
Liverpool Olympia tomorrow (Saturday, March 25).
What's the catch? Mexican Pedro Alonso Teran is a hghtweight and been
stopped, but with a 13-2 record, all but one of his wins inside the limit, we could
see Ricky pushed. With promoter Frank Warren prepared to match Hatton against
Scouser Shea Neary, the Mancunian
puncher should be able to deal with
the likes of Teran, a pro since May
1995.

ST PANCRAS light-heavyweight PETER HAYMER
kshowed enough skill and determination at the Irish
Centre to suggest he will be a tough nut to crack.
The shaven-headed Haymer won twice, first against
delightfully-named GODSPOVVER UBGRIO (Th)jan), who did
well to survive after receiving a standing count in the second.
Peter then brought the curtain down on the evening's
proceedings with another powerful display against gallant All
Stars southpaw TONY JOHN in the final.

Harding first
COMMON SENSE prevailed when the acting head of
the IBF insisted No. 1 contender Antonk) Tarver
face Eric Hanliiig or the next highest-available
challenger before taking on light-heavyweight
champnn Roy Jones.
