Italy's golden boy
BOB ARUM, Oscar De La Hoya's promoter,
was in Rome to announce an
agreement had been reached for the
Golden Boy to box in Italy in the spring of
2001.
The probable opponent is Michele
Piccirillo, the WBU title-holder, who defends
against Waiter Crucce on April 29.
Piccirillo may get a place on a De La Hoya
undercard when the American boxes again in
September. First Oscar must overcome Shane
Mosley in Los Angeles on June 17.
He r e we go again with brave
DARREN DORRINGTON, who
has his combat gear on again,
ready for another war of attrition
against ELVIS ADONISI, the stylish
South African who outboxed him at
this venue last July and forced him to
retire on his stool after the 11th round.
It was one of the domestic fights of
the year and all that has changed Is the
weights, this match being for the vacant
WBU Continental title at middleweight
rather than light-middle.
WHILE the WBO belt may
not be the most prestigious,
JOHNNY NELSON has at least
been active, defending that organisation's
cruiserweight crown four
times since dethroning Carl
Thompson on a fifth-round stoppage
