MICHAEL DOKES, the
former WBA heavyweight
champion in the 1980s, was
arrested in Las Vegas on
Monday after police claimed he
beat his fiancee viciously and
held her against her will before
committing sexual assault.
The 40-year-old, with a
history of drug-related
problems, was charged with the
^ latter as well as attempted
murder and false imprisonment.
Police say the woman was badly
beaten and sustained serious
facial damage.
"I've never seen anyone walk
out of a ring against Dokes looking
this bad," said Tom Monahan
of the police department.
