EXECUTIVES at the MGM-Grand
Hotel in Las Vegas said last
week there was no confirmation
MIKE TYSON'S next fight would take
place at their casino on January 16.
Shelly Finkel, one of Tyson's
advisors, said he was waiting to see
what was happening with the
GEORGE FOREMAN-LARRY
HOLMES bout, set for Houston on
January 23, but Roger Levitt,
involveld in the promotion of the
two veteran former champions,
insists the date is fixed.
With all other weekends in the
first month of next year
inappropriate, Tyson's comeback
- if January 16 is ruled out -
could go back to February. The
MGM did confirm, however, that
talks were taking place for Tyson
to box there and Fmkel told one
source American LOU SAVARESE
would not be the opponent.

CRAIG WINTER, the north Welshman fighting out of
Chris Sanigar's rapidly expanding Bristol Boys gym,
emerged as a potential British title threat, in stopping
Hartlepool's PETER MASON after two minutes 11 seconds of
the fourth of a scheduled eight-rounder at Basingstoke.
Mason was brave, but outgunned, going down heavily
from a crisp right in the opening session for three and again
for eight in the fourth shortly before referee Mark Green
called it off

THE long wait between title fights, the torrential
rain outside and the manner of Dean Francis'
defeat by American Undra White made it quite a
depressing night for the local super-middleweight's
followers.
If ever there was sound reasoning to rule a No Contest,
this was it, as Francis, significantly bigger than the 5ft
6in visitor, suddenly turned away from the American in
the second after dislocating his right shoulder
This was not a broken hand, which fighters sometimes
fake to find a way of escaping certain defeat, but an
obvious injury and Francis was an overwhelming
favourite to triumph
