HENRY AKINWANDE can consider
himself extremely fortunate
to hold on to his $lm
purse following his disqualification
defeat by LENNOX LEWIS.
Officials on the Nevada Commission
voted 4-0 not to take any
further disciplinary action
against the boxer, feeling he had
been punished enough by losing
his chance of the title.
I don'/ agree. The Nevada Commission
should have made an
example of Akinwande, but the
punishment does not fit the
crime.

NAMIBIAN hopeful Harry Simon
(list 1 3/41bs) scored his 15th
win a row, 12 inside the distance, but
laboured at times before stopping
Birmingham southpaw George
Richards (11st) in the fifth of a scheduled
eight-rounder which opened the
show.

BRITISH and European cruiserweight
champion JOHNNY
NELSON (14st 7 3/4!bs) marked time
before a possible clash with Terry
Dunstan by registering a clear
points win over Manchester heavyweight
MICHAEL MURRAY (16st) in
a four-rounder which had been
reduced from eight-threes. Referee
Roy Francis scored 40-38.
Nelson used to his superior footwork
and skill to outbox Murray,
who, nonetheless, caught the
Sheffield man with a few dangerous
rights to make matters interesting.
Johnny hurt the Mancunian with
a right uppercut and then a left
hook in the second, but was frustrated
as Murray halted his
progress by holding. Nelson
speared Murray with his jab in the
third as the former British heavyweight
title challenger tried to
apply some pressure.
But Johnny avoided his lumbering
blows to run out a comfortable
' points winner.
