WAYNE McCULLOUGH has
turned down a $150,000 offer to
challenge Erik Morales, who last weekend
retained his WBC super-bantamweight
title by defeating another
Irishman, John Lowey (see pages 28-
29).
W/m HERBIE HIDE'S scheduled January 17
WBO heavyweight title defence in Norwich cancelled,
promoter Frank Warren has taken the enticing
British middleweight championship bout between
NEVILLE BROWN and GLEN CATLEY off his Cardiff
show on January 24 and made it the main event in
Whitchurch a week earlier. Hide's next defence is
rescheduled for February 7 in Norwich.
WORCESTER'S HARRY
BUTLER (lOst 10 l/21bs)
showed admirable courage in
taldng Canadian prospect HERCULES
K'n'ELOS (lOst 10 l/41bs)
tlie distance in tlie light-middleweight
four-round showopener.
Referee Phil Edwards scored
40-38 1/2 for the former
Olympian from Montreal who
had won all three of his previous
bouts inside the distance. The
goateed Canadian graducdly
stepped up his work-rate after a
quiet first and winded Butler
with some hurtful left hooks to
the body.
But Harry jolted Hercules
with a left hook in the third and
gave a good effort during some
lively exchanges. The Worcester
man came under increasing
pressure in the last and held frequently,
bringing a couple of
witrnings from referee Edwards.
Kyvelos had Butler disorientated
with some wicked body shots in
the last, but the Englishman
deserved to last the distance.
