HAMILTON liglit-welterweight SCOTT DIXON (lOst 2Ibs) took time to
settle down in his four-threes with Plymouth's willing MARK
McGOWAN (9st lOIbs), but won by 40-38 1/2 according to referee Victor
Longhlin. I made Dixon a half-point winner.
McGowan certainly won the first, landing solidly with a left and right
hand, and knocking Dixon back with a stiff jab at the end. He steamed into
Dixon again in round two, bruising the Scot by the right eye, but as his
attacks waned, Dixon found the range with his jab and went on to take
over. By the last he was drilling his punches home.

PEACOCK PROMOTIONS return to Brighton to stage another
show at Hove Town Hall tonight (July 11). In the main event, local
light-heavyweight MARK SNIPE faces Plymouth's PETER VOSPER over
six rounds.
Snipe lost his unbeaten record at the same venue in April when he
was stopped in two by Stoke's Darren Ashton and will be looking for a
confidence-boosting victory in front of his home fans.
Vosper won the vacant Western Area light-heavyweight crown by
outpointing stablemate Simon Andrews also in April, but Snipe should
triumph on points.
In other bouts, Enfield light-middleweight DEAN BARCLAY faces
Pontefract's game WAYNE APPLETON while local southpaw LEIGH
WICKS takes on Welling's DARREN COVILL. Bognor's unbeaten PAT
LARNER fights awkward JON HARRISON, while Redhill welterweight
PAUL KNIGHTS meets former Southern Area title challenger
PAUL MILES.
^ T H E Nevada Boxing Commi-
^ ^ s i o n is bracing itself for
possible trouble between bitter
Albuquerque rivals Danny
Romero and Johnny Tapia who
meet in Las Vegas on July 18.
Executive Director Marc Ratner
has warned both camps that
their fighters will be penalised
for any misconduct during their
unification fight at the Thomas &
Mack Center (it was switched
from the Las Vegas Hilton).
"The Commission will not tolerate
any histrionics or physical
conduct of any sort, even in
chance meetings between them,"
Ratner told the Albuquerque
Tribune. "If they do, they can
and will be fined severely."
Ratner plans to meet representatives
from both camps at
least 24 hours before the fight
and hopes WBO champion Tapia
and IBF king Romero will avoid
any scenes at the weigh-in.
"Security will be very tight,"
said a spokesman. "Every precaution
is being taken."
