NELSON ON HIS
TRAVELS AGAIN
• JOHNNY NELSON must travel to
France to make his mandatory
European cruiserweight title challenge
against Alexander Gurov nine
days before Christmas.
Nelson tops a double championship
bill in Grand-Synthe on
December 16 with Ahmet Dottuev,
the former WBA light-middleweight
title challenger, boxing Belgium's
Michael Simeon for the IBF Inter-continental
belt. Other Frank Maloney
prospects on the show include
unbeaten super-featherweight
Tontcho Tontchev and Chicago
heavyweight Steve Jay.
But foreign soil will cause Nelson
few headaches. He regained the title
there in February when he stopped
Patrice Aouissi and starts a strong
favourite to take care of southpaw
Gurov.

COLIN MCMILLAN reported that the Michael Watson benefit night
earlier this month was a success, raising 55,000 for the former
'world' middle and super-middleweight title challenger, who is making
remarkable progress since his defeat by Chris Eubank in September
1991. "He is coming on in leaps and bounds," says McMillan. "There's
no stopping him." Watson, I am told, is now able to walk.

THE Boxing Board have
warned Naseem Hamed and
Chris Eubank that any further incidents
like the one which occurred
at Heathrow last month would be
met with disciplinary action.
"Acting in this manner demeans
themselves as well as the sport,"
said a Board statement.
