PROSPECTS SCOTT DIXON and
GERARD MURPHY take a big step up
in class when they contest the vacant Scottish
welterweight title over 10 rounds on
the Katherine Morrison/Frank Warren
joint promotion at the Thistle Hotel in
Glasgow tonight (Friday).

IN AN interesting fourrounder
at Boston
between two unbeaten welters,
DAVID TOMAS (lOst 51bs), from
Chelsea, Massachusetts,
showed a nice j ab and good
command of the ring as he was
a bit too quick for ANTHONY
PERRY (lOst 4Ibs), from Chesapeake,
Virginia.

The score was 39-37 on all
three cards for Tomas,
but Perry jarred his promising
opponent with two hard rights
in the third and two left hooks
in the last. Tomas, 8-0 (6), is
trained by Lou Duva. Perry
drops to 7-1-2 (3).

MAYWEATHER'S HAMMER
• UNBEATEN prospect FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR annihilated
LOUIE LEJL\ (9st 61bs), from San Antonio,
Texas, who suffered four knockdowns and was almost
knocked out of the ring after 23 seconds of the second
in the chief support to Zaragoza-Morsiles.
Mayweather (9st 41bs), from Las Vegas, placed his
punches beautif^y £uid dropped Leija with a precise right
to the jaw in the first. Seconds later, as he opened up, referee
Jerry McKenzie issued a standing eight, though they
were not in the Texas rule book.

NASHVILLE is becoming a
busy fight city, with plenty of
shows, and on July 1, Canadian
super-middleweight ABDUL
RAMADAN outpointed BRYAN
LLOYD. The 30-year-old from
Toronto made his name with a victory
over John David Jackson last
November, but had to settle for a
split decision over Lloyd.
One week later, again in Nashville,
another Canadian, NICK
RUPA, flattened poor JEROME HILL
in one round.
