HAVING been damned with faint praise for outpointing Jimmy Ellis, the chances
are that Joe Bugner will give a performance more to everyone's liking when he
meets American heavyweight Boone Kirkman in the 10 rounds main event at the
Albert Hall on Tuesday.

 

FRENCH boxing, on the ropes after the eclipse of
Bouttier and Menetrey, can lift its head again if their
heavy-fisted middleweight champion, Gratien Tonna,
does the unexpected and clobbers WBC champ
Rodrigo Valdes in Paris tomorrow (Saturday).

 

SOME weeks ago I reported the death of Eddie Donoghue, the Middlesbrough
featherweight. Following this, I received a letter from reader Terence Larkin of
Teesside, enclosing Donoghue's record and a lot of information about his career,
which I thought would be of interest to other readers.

 

ALEXIS ARGUELLO won the WBA featherweight title
when he knocked out defending champion Ruben Olivares,
Mexico's "Mr Knockout," in the 13th of their scheduled
15-rounder at the Forum.
