CARDIFF southpaw John Janes,
cheered from the balcony by
his Icirge family, repeated an
ecu-lier six-twos win over Paignton's
Gavin Lane, Mr Jones aweuxling him
a 60-58 margin. Janes (lOst 13 l/2lbs)
dominated throughout, frequently
jolting Lane (11st) with a right uppercut,
and the Devonian did well to
stay the course.

PUERTO RICAN challenger
DANIEL ALICEA
repeated the thoughts of
many a Naseem Hamed opponent
when he claimed he had
the style and strengths to
defeat the WBO featherweight
champion.
Alicea's manager Joe
Fernandez said on Monday
that his fighter won't be a sitting
target for the hard-hitting
champion.
"I think it will be the
hunter and the rabbit," he
said. "And Daniel will be the
hunter."
Fernandez acknowledged
that it would be a hard fight,
but that Daniel had trained
for two months and sparred
more than 100 rounds. He
had put in a lot of work with
southpaws like Hamed.
IN THE six-twos sliow-opener, Worcester's ERVINE
BLAKE (98t 3Ib8) d i s p o s e d of S a i t a s h ' s WAYNE
JONES (9st 4lb8) in 31 seconds. Blake landed one Jab in
the preliminary moves, then feinted with a right and
crashed home a clean left hook to the chin which took
away Jones' legs.
• He went over backwards, struggled up gamely at
six, but his legs were wobbling as he stood facing
the wrong way in a daze. Referee Coyle tapped him on
the shoulder to turn him around, looked hard at him
and led him to his corner.
