IN THE fight of the night,
Islington's exciting super-middle
ENZO GIORDANO drew with
Norwich's tough ANDY GRAY (12st)
in a thrilling six-twos. Referee
John-Lewis scored 59 points apiece
and, while that seemed harsh on
Giordano, no-one could begrudge
the wholehearted Gray a share,
writes MARK BUTCHER.
ALDERSHOT'S
DAVE BRAZIL (lOst
lib) made an impressive
debut, outpunching Hull
first-timer ANDY MARTIN
(lOst lib) for a thirdround
win. It was scheduled
for six-twos.
The shaven-headed
Martin was willing and
took plenty of blows to
head and body, but
Brazil never eased his
attacks and Martin eventually
wilted, going down
in the second and third
rounds, both times from
uppercuts through the
middle of his guard.
Brazil, from Jim Evans'
stable, punched straight
and fast, landing eyecatching
combinations
and hooks to the body.
Martin soaked it up and
kept going forward, but a
right uppercut eventually
dropped him to one knee
for six in the second.
A SHOW in El Paso on May 18 saw
Juarez southpaw Rene Herrera
outpoint Eric Holland to go to 23-3.
Southpaw Herrera holds a win over
WBO welterweight king Jose Luis
Lopez, who blasted out Eamonn
Loughran in one round here.
Another May 18 show, this one in
Lincoln, Nebraska, saw local hero
Tony Menefee halt former conqueror
Heath Todd in two rounds. Tony has
a 37-3 record. Both fighters are former
victims of Roberto Duran.
