OSCAR DE LA HOYA'S first
defence of the WBC lightwelterweight
title against
MIGUEL ANGEL
GONZALEZ will now take
place on October 11, at
Caesars Palace in Las
Vegas.The fight was originally
set for September 14,
but was put back in order
not to clash with the
rearranged Tyson-Seldon
fight, which now goes
ahead on September 7 at
the MGM Grand in Las
Vegas.

HACKNEY light-heavyweight BRUCE SCOTT (12st
9 3/4Ibs) outpointed Hull's TONY BOOTH (12st
13 l/21bs) over eight rounds in the show-opener.
Scott had stopped Booth in three rounds last
November, when he floored him and cut him badly
on the nose. This time Bruce had him down twice,
but never looked like finishing him off and had to
settle for a 79-78 points victory from referee Dave
Parrts.

FRANCIS BARRETT
(Ireland, light-welter): This
19-year-old southpaw from
Galway shocked everyone
by qualifying for the
Games, but realistically is
just too young and inexperienced
internationally to
make any real impression
in Atlanta.

DAMAEN KELLY (Ireland,
fly): His country's best
hope for a medal, Damaen
is a skilful, mobile boxer
with a proven pedigree at
world level.
Bronze medallist at the
1993 Worlds and the 1996
Europeans, Belfastman
Damaen is capable of
achieving the same result
in Georgia.
