FRANK WARREN has issued
a clarification of the offer he
made to Lennox Lewis on
behalf of Don King for a
fight with Mike Tyson. "It
was for a total of $18m", he
says, "comprised as follows:
$lm as soon as terms
were agreed, $4m when
Tyson fought Bruce Seldon
in September, $4m when
Tyson fought Evander
Holyfield, a $2m penalty
payment if the Lewis-Tyson
fight did not take place by
March 1997, and $7m when
the Lewis-Tyson fight actually
took place.
'The deal was refused
because Seth Abraham of
HBO demanded $7m from
Lewis' purse because of
Lewis' contractual obligations
to HBO. Now, thanks
to Abraham, Lewis has only
one option - to fight Oliver
McCall for the vacant WBC
title, for which he would
not receive more than
$2m."

INGLEWOOD - August 5:
IBF flyweight champion
MARK JOHNSON sent out
a message to rival WBC
king Ymi Arbachakov
when he stopped RAUL
JUAREZ in eight romids at
the Forum to retain his
title for the first time.
Juarez had been the distance
with the Russian in
February, but Johnson
floored the Mexican in the
third and finished him
after one minute 57 seconds
of the eij^th after the
spent challenger went
down again.

ACTIVE Mexican
MARCO ANTONIO
BARRERA keeps
lining up the challengers
and defends his
WBO super-bantamweight
title for the
eighth time when he
faces Californian southpaw
JESSE MAGANA at
the Inglewood Forum
on September 14.
Barrera made it 42
wins in a row, 30 inside
the distance, by stopping
durable former
champion Orlando
Fernandez in seven
rounds in Denver last
month. Magana has an
1&4-2 record including
wins over Freddy Cruz,
Rudy Zavala and Max
Gomez. He has yet to
box for a 'world' title.
