A SPORTING contest is meant to end in victory or
defeat, but for Bradley Stone it ended in death.
The 23 year-old Canning Town boxer died at the Royal
Hospital in Whitechapel, at about 8.30 pm on Thursday
April 28, almost two days after being stopped by Cullompton-
based Liverpudlian Richie Wenton in the 10th round of
a bout for the inaugural British super-bantamweight title at
York Hall.
WEST HAM prospect JASON ROWLAND came
in at a surprisingly light 9st 1 libs and wasted
no time in disposing of Crawley's RAY HOOD
(9st 12'/2lbs), knocking him out in the first of
their scheduled six round show-opener.
TWO-AND-A-HALF years ago he was just a six-round "opponent", but Mexico's
Julio Cesar Borboa made the fourth defence of his IBF super-flyweight title,
dropping blood-spattered countryman Jorge Luis Roman (8st 21bs), Mexicali, to
a knee, as referee James Jen-Kin stopped their gory mismatch at 2:30 of the
fourth round before a wildly cheering crowd at the Great Western Forum.
THE CHAMPIONSHIP scene shifts to the London
Hilton on Monday (May 9) as the senior Class C
title event is held when second time around DARREN
RHODES (Hunslet Boys) and MEHRDUD
TAKALOBIGHASHI (Margate) try for the 71 kg division,
