EUROPEAN featherweight champion Barry McGuigan is
set to make a triumphal big-show appearance in defence of
his crown when he meets Spanish challenger Esteban
Eguia at the Albert Hall on Tuesday.
McGuigan, also the British champ, has made one down
the bill appearance at Wembley and topped at sporting
clubs in London, but this is his first spot in t h e limelight in
London.

Davitt is an easier opponent for

DUKE McKENZIE hammered out a warning to British
flyweight champion Hugh Russell by destroying Midlands
area champion Gary "Rocky" Roberts in one round at the
National Sporting Club.
Referee Dave Parris counted Roberts out one second
after the bell, with the Midlander incapacitated by a
vicious right to the body.

TWO of Scotland's leading boxers, Joe Kelly and Peter
Bradley, get a chance to show what might have been when
they line-up for a British ABA side which faces Ireland's
Olympic side in Belfast, tonight (Friday).
The Scottish duo, whose claims for Olympic selection
were overlooked despite a concerted campaign by their
Holy rood club, go into action determined to produce
performances which will remind the BABA selectors that
they should not have been ignored.
Bantamweight Kelly, beaten by Dave Anderson in the
Scottish Championships and more recently by John Sillitoe
(Lee Jones), doubles up with England's Sean Murphy. At
feather A B A semi-finalist Bradley replaces Peter English,
who is unavailable.
