THE Frank Bruno rehabilitation continued with a thoroughly
predictable one-sided battering of outclassed import Jeff
Jordan in the scheduled 10-rounds main event at the Albert
Hall, writes HARRY MULLAN.
Jordan, from Columbus, Ohio, was rescued by referee Sid
Nathan after 1:50 of the third round of an unedifying
mismatch. He had not been off his feet, but neither had he
made an effective move in the time the fiasco lasted.
HOME TOWN hero Bill Costello retained his WBC
lightweight title by hammering out a lopsided, unanimous
12-round decision over veteran former champion Saoul
Mamby.
But while the local fans were delighted with the
unbeaten Costello's performance, the big excitement came
on the same show when Jaime Garza was sensationally
knocked out in the first round by Juan "Kid" Meza to lose
his WBC super-bantam title and undefeated record.
ENGLAND international Paul Moylett (Hartcliffe) halted
a Western Counties collapse when he battled to a superb
victory against South West Scotland's John Bennie at
Bristol Sporting Club's first dinner show of the season.
KINGSTON super-heavyweight Bobby Wells, Britain's
only medallist in the summer Olympics, met crushing
defeat in his first outing since mounting the Los Angeles
rostrum.
