BILLY AIRD'S 10-year dream of heavyweight glory
ended in disappointment and humiliation as Hackney's
John L. Gardner biffed and bulled him into
retirement at the end of the fifth round of their
scheduled 15-rounder for the vacant British and
Commonwealth titles.

NEIL MCLAUGHLIN (Derry) and Davy Larmour (Belfast) meet in
a battle of former top amateurs for the Derryman's Northern
Ireland bantamweight title at the Paisley Park Social Centre,
Belfast, today (Friday).
McLaughlin, 30, is probably past his best as a former European
Games bronze medallist. Former Commonwealth Games gold
medallist Larmour, 26, has not recaptured his amateur flyweight
form as a pro except in flashes but he should be too young for the
now rather shop-worn McLaughlin.
