JIM WATT boxed with the calm authority of a
champion to retain his European lightweight title in
his first defence against Spanish champion Jeronimo
Lucas at the Midlands Sporting Club.
ALL-OUT aggression took Merthyr's gutsy Johnny
Wall to a popular 10-rounds win over Dill Collins
(Llantwit Major) in defence of his Welsh lightweight
title at the National Sporting Club.
VICTOR GALINDEZ, Argentine holder of the WBA
light-heavyweight title, retained his title with a
close-shave points win over American challenger
Eddie Gregory.
SAILOR Wayne Green, England's new light-welterweight international, scored
easily the most important win of his career while boxing for the Royal Navy
against a Warwickshire Select at the Hotel Leofric.
Green's win helped the Navy to a four-all draw on bouts contested but Navy
coach Mick Shone told Boxing News he was claiming a win because Oldham's
England international light-middle Tommy Heffron, down to box Nick Croombes
as a Warwickshire guest, made a late withdrawal because of injuries sustained in
the recent Ireland-England match in Dublin against Brian Byrne.
