THE FUTURE looks full of promise for Millwall's
Jimmy Batten, still British l i g h t - m i d d l e w e i g ht
champion after four whirlwind rounds with former
title-holder Larry Paul of Wolverhampton at the
Albert Hall.

NEIL MALPASS, latest heavyweight protege of canny manager George Biddies,
gave a display of genuinely potent punching as he hammered Sutton's Kris Smith
to defeat inside a round in a scheduled eight-rounds support to the Batten-Paul
title fight.

SOMETIMES desire rather than technique is what makes
the difference between victory and defeat. Success goes to
the man who, when all his other resources are spent, digs
deeper into himself to find the will to carry on.

OFFICIAL light-heavyweight contender Roy John
struggled to a draw with unsung Eddie Fenton, and
unfavoured Terry Mintus took a clear-cut (joints win over
Tony Moore, in the two main events on Billy Gray's first
promotion at the Coronation Hall, Kingston.

WEST HAM'S Johnny Claydon, halted last time out
in a British lightweight title bid, earned himself
another try by well outscoring Reading's Tommy
Dunn in a gruelling final eliminator at the Cunard
International Hotel.
