ALAN RICHARDSON, craggy British featherweight
champion from Fitzwilliam, will have a fight on his
hands as he makes his first defence of the title against
Welsh champion Les Pickett on Eddie Thomas's
promotion at the Afon Lido, Aberavon, on Tuesday.
Alan won the title from Vernon Sollas via an eighth
round stoppage before an enthusiastic Yorkshire crowd at
Leeds Town Hall. He was subsequently stopped in the 12th
in Lagos for the vacant Commonwealth title by tough
Eddie Ndukwu. There was consolation for Alan, though.
The £5,000 purse was the best of his career.

TONY OXLEY and Joe Kiernan, senior coaches to the Royal Navy and Regular
Army respectively, are shortly to leave their posts to take up other service
positions overseas.
