TKO over Ray Chavez, the Canadian welterweight
title-holder.
THE DATE — January 26, 1952. The venue — Rand
Stadium, Johannesburg. Two 23-year-old bantamweights,
both undefeated, were to contest the
championship of the world. The champion was
South Africa's Vic Toweel, and the challenger
Scotland's Peter Keenan.
THE news that contracts have been signed for Miguel Angel Cuello to defend the
WBC light-heavy title against Mate Parlov in Rome or Milan on October 1 brings
Parlov, the now Italian-based Yugoslav who can boast a singularly successful
amateur career, a step nearer to the fulfilment of his long-cherished dream, which
is to be unquestioned champion of the world.
WAYNE EVANS, official contender for Paddy
Maguire's British bantamweight title, has decided

title bid, and the Board of Control have now ruled
that Maguire must defend against Welsh champion
Johnny Owen.
