ONE of the ring's great champions has positively his
last fight — win, lose or draw — in Monte Carlo
tomorrow (Saturday) night when Carlos Monzon
defends his world middleweight title against Rodrigo
Valdes.

JOHNNY KING was one of that great triumvirate of
Manchester's champions who lorded it over their
respective divisions during the 1930's. Jackie Brown
was the supreme flyweight, Jock McAvoy, middle
and light-heavyweight title-holder, while King was
tops in the bantam class more than once.

New England boxing promoter, had died, v i c t im of an apparent heart attack after
his car ran off a road near Boston. The death rings d o w n the final curtain on the
strange, star-crossed career of Rocky Marciano.

FINCHLEY competition secretary Johnny Cummings isn't the only person at the
club who is getting excited about the prospects of 17-year-old Kim York, writes
Brian Pigden.

BILLY KNIGHT, who once looked such an exciting
championship hope, starts back with an eight-rounder
against American middleweight veteran Willie Warren on
tomorrow (Saturday's) world championship bill in Monte
Carlo.
