BROTHERS Peter and Dennis Gabbitus pulled off a family
double when the recently formed boxing club at Hatfield
High School, Doncaster, held its first show.
Peter, 14, made it four wins in four contests by stopping Kevin
Doody, of North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, in the third round.
And 13-year-old Dennis celebrated his debut with a points
victory over Francis Fagan, of Croft House, Sheffield.
Geography teacher Ken Scott, who runs the school boxing club,
was delighted with the response to the well-attended first show and
plans to run others after the summer break.

IN MAY 1927 a group of masters from the Stowe
Public School in Buckinghamshire formed a club for
boys in a disused pub called the "Pineapple" in
Carlisle Street (now Penfold Street) off London's
Edgware Road.
