THE result looks terrific on paper, but Alan Minter,
British middleweight champion, was workmanlike
rather than sensational in stopping former world title
challenger Tony Licata,of New Orleans, in the sixth of
their scheduled 10 rounds joint main event on Harry
Levene's show.

HERBIE McLEAN, Edinburgh (10-3) fought aggressively to outpoint Central Area
light-welterweight champion Gordon Kirk, Liverpool (10-3) in their eight-rounds
main event at the National Sporting Club.

PHYSICALLY Bob Fitzsimmons was one of the most
implausible looking heavyweight champions ever,
with his baldine dome, fringed by red hair, his
freckled complexion and skinny shanks.

PAUL CHANCE, 18-year-old bantamweight (Bilston
Golden Gloves), was voted best boxer of the night
when he made his international debut in the Young
England v West Germany match at the Night Out
club, taking a unanimous decision over HANS
PETER HYDA.

CLINTON McKENZIE, Croydon's 1976 ABA light-welter champ
and Olympic representative, has his second pro bout when he
meets Barton McAllister (Clapham) over eight rounds at the
Premier Ring Sporting Club on Monday.
There will be two other bouts on the bill but these had not been
arranged at the time of going to press.
McKenzie won his debut with a comfortable points victory over
Jimmy King, of Birmingham, at York Hall last month.
Monday's show will be the first stag night at the Premier club
and blonde matchmaker Beryl Cameron-Gibbons said she will be
staying discreetly in the background.
