WEST HAM'S Johnny Claydon won the Southern
Area lightweight title at the second attempt via a
clear 12-rounds points verdict over defending
champion Tommy Dunn of Reading at the Anglo-
American Sporting Club — and now has his sights
firmly set on British champion Jim Watt, whom he
beat on a cut eye in a non-title fight in June.

MANAGER-PROMOTER Andy Smith gave his
Cambridge and District Sporting Club a lively
send-off for the new season, at the University Centre,
with a well-matched card and three impressive
victories for his own fighters.

BRITAIN'S boxers, having taken five titles in 1974, disappointed somewhat in this
year's Dutch multi-nations tourney held in Rotterdam between October 21-25 by
failing to gain a single championship, but some looked very unlucky with points
verdicts.

Kevin meets Tompkins
KEVIN FINNEGAN, former British middleweight champion,
meets Alec Tompkins (Bow) in the eight rounds main event at York
Hall on November 15. The match is made at l i s t 81b.
Finnegan, still hoping for another chance at Alan Minter for the
British title, is keeping active in the meantime.
Tompkins looks like providing lively opposition. He won his last
two bouts inside the distance, stopping Pat Brogan and Gareth
Tashy Jones in five and one rounds respectively.
JIMMY BATTEN, Millwall light-middle, meets MICKEY RYCE
(Abingdon) over eight rounds at 11 -stone in the chief support.
Hayes middle BOYD FARRER meets VERNON SCOTT (St
Pancras), probably over eight two's, and opponents are being
sought for middleweight hopefuls KEITH BUSSEY and BOBBY
MAYS.
