THERE was no Cockney knees-up in the Wembley
ring this time for East End pride John H. Stracey as
Mexican-American Carlos Palomino pummelled him
to defeat in the 12th round to take Stracey's WBC
welterweight title.

ROUGH-HOUSE tactics prevailed in the Wembley
scheduled eight rounds show-closer between London Scots
Vernon Sollas and Tommy Glencross before the fight ended
inconclusively with Glencross cut over the left eye in the
third.

THE ROW over the decision not to send Sir Philip Game
club's Clinton McKenzie as British light-welter in the
Olympic team has now moved on from purely boxing
circles.

BRITAIN'S amateur boxers held a weakish American
team to a 5-5 draw at Wembley. If the walk-over win
for light-flyweight JOE DAWSON is included it was a
6-5 win for Britain.

PAUL KELLY, ABA finalist from the Royal Navy,
outpointed Scot Steve Cooney (St. Francis ABC) in a
special welterweight contest at the end of the Great
Britain-USA match.
