THRILLS, drama, bravery and hard-hitting were all
again on view in rings around the world in the past 12
months. But two fights in 1976 stood out above all
others during the year — both of them on the African
continent.

OUR top fight of the year had to be September's superb championship battle at
the Albert Hall on September 14 between middleweight title-holder Alan Minter
and former British and European champ Kevin Finnegan.

JULIUS TORMA, Czechoslovakia's 1948
Olympic welterweight gold medallist, was
undoubtedly Eastern Europe's outstanding
boxer of the immediate post-war era
and also the one with the greatest professional
potential, even if he never had the
chance to realise it.

LARRY McDONALD, Alexandra's NW Divs heavyweight champion, outpointed
Melbourne's brave Cliff Beardsley on the top of the bill bout at the newly opened
Wembley Conference Centre.
