FORMIDABLE puncher Nigel Benn may now have to look elsewhere for a "world"
title match after finishing off Canadian Dan Sherry with a single, crunching right
hand in three rounds at the Alexandra Palace.
Before the fight Benn's No.l target, WBO super-middleweight champion Chris
Eubank, had shown extreme reluctance to oblige with a rematch and that now looks
even more unlikely following the decisive manner in which Benn dismissed Eubank's
former challenger.
MIDLANDS super-featherweight champion Peter Buckley
found a clean right hand to stop home town challenger Brian
Robb in the tenth round of an absorbing struggle at Oakengates
Town Hall.
MICKEY DUFF, manager of the new British welterweight
champion Gary Jacobs, is talking of a possible
challenge for Maurice Blocker's IBF title, but there was
not much to encourage such optimism in Jacobs' points
victory over Del Bryan at the Scottish Exhibition
Centre.
THE WEST Ham-Newco Repton permutation of the
light-heavyweight division in the London North East
championships continued for the third year running at
York Hall, but there was no controversial ending as in
past years. This time Mark Delaney (West Ham)
outpointed Newco Repton's Monty Wright over three
excellent rounds.
