IN A WEEK when British boxing is under attack, it suffered another
self-inflicted wound as Juan Figueroa, an utterly inept Argentinian, was
wiped out in 67 seconds of the first round of a disgusting mismatch
against unbeaten heavyweight puncher Frank Bruno, writes HARRY
MULLAN.

THANKS to the exceptional gameness of
American import Mark Lee what might have
been a drearily one-sided 10-rounder with
Commonwealth heavyweight champion Trevor
Berbick of Canada turned into something more
elevating writes TIM MO.

UNBEATEN middleweight Errol Christie looks sure to
add yet another inside distance victim to his tally when he
takes on Detroit's lanky Bobby "Rico" Hoye in a scheduled
10-rounder at the Bloomsbury Crest Hotel on Wednesday.
Smart footwork by promoter Frank Warren secured
Hoye's services for Christie. He had originally been announced
as an opponent for British middleweight champion
Mark Kaylor on last week's Wembley show.

FORMER Commonwealth and British middleweight champion
Roy Gumbs makes his comeback over 10 rounds
against American Lindell Holmes.
This will be his first fight since being halted and losing his
tides to Mark Kaylor at Alexandra Pavilion last September.
That was a below par performance from Gumbs. He
seemed overawed by the occasion and fought nervously and
jerkily, burning up a lot of wasteful energy.

THE navy, stilJ smarting from their highly controversial
defeat by the Army in the CSBA team championship a
fortnight previously, re-asserted their postion as the top
Service outfit by snatching seven of the twelve available
titles in the Combined Services Individual Open Championships
at the Connaught Drill Hall.
But it was a soldier, light-heavy Dennis Bailey, who
grabbed top honours with a sensational first round crushing
of the seemingly indestructable Dave Farrell, of the Air
force.
