JIMMY CABLE'S four-month reign as European
light-middleweight champion fizzled out in beersoaked
Munich.
As the city celebrated its annual festival, Cable
seemed to suffer a hangover from a desperately
gruelling year as he lost a unanimous 12-round
decision to local challenger Georg Steinherr in the
Circus Krone-Bau.
FRENCH boxing seems to be in a rut. Richard Caramanolis
lost his EBU light-heavyweight title to Alex Blanchard,
and Louis Acaries lost his crown to Tony Sibson. Germain
Le Maitre lost in a challenge for the light-middleweight
title against Herol Graham and then Said Skouma was
stopped by Jimmy Cable for the vacant title.
DENNIS ANDRIES goes for a Lonsdale Belt of
his own when he defends his British lightheavyweight
title against Devon Bailey at the Britannia
Leisure Centre, Shoreditch, on Wednesday.
THOMAS HEARNS says Marvin Hagler is getting
anxious "because he knows his turn is coming."
And the way Hearns hammered capable Fred Hutchings
in three rounds on American national television might
indeed have caused a flicker of .concern in the Hagler
camp.
IN HIS international career Paul Hodkinson has picked up
some glowing references from foreign coaches, writes
Terry Baker. Hodkinson goes to a multi-nation tournament
in Tampere, Finland, later this month determined to
enhance that reputation, this time though as a featherweight.
