OF all the Welsh boxers who became British champions,
I suppose Bill Beynon is t h e least written about.
Yet he fought all over the United Kingdom for 23
years, engaged in more than 160 contests, was not only
a very capable performer but also a very nice chap.
He did not win all his bouts, but always put u p a good
fight. Promoters could rely on Beynon to give them
value for money and the fans sat up and took notice
whenever he climbed through the ropes.

GT. BRITAIN were given a morale boosting
start to their Olympic Games medal quest in the
Los Angeles Sports Arena when St. Pancras
welterweight Mickey Hughes hammered out a
points win.
It was a fine victory for Hughes over the vastly
experienced Paul Rasamimanana of Madagascar,
and all the more remarkable because it was
Hughes' international debut.

MICKEY OULD, Eltham's former London Federation and
South East Divisional champion, has turned professional with
manager Gary Davidson, ex-southern Area bantamweight
champion.
Ould, 22, signed contracts at the Thomas A'Becket, Old
Kent Road, where he will train under the supervision of
Millwall's former British light-middleweight champion Jimmy
Batten.

BRITISH lightweight title holder George Feeney
challenges European 9st 91bs king Rene Weller
over 12 rounds in Frankfurt on October 5.
Feeney is the official contender.
