GLOUCESTER middleweight
Johnny Melfah ( l i s t 61bs) found
American import Carl Penn ( l i st
lib) too easy to hit, dropping him
twice before referee Sid Nathan
counted Penn out after only two
minutes of the first of a scheduled
ten threes, writes CLAUDE
ABRAMS.

BRITISH light-welterweight champion
Lloyd Christie looked distinctly fortunate
to take a 10-round points win over
admirable American import Tim
Burgess at the Cocks Moors Wood
Leisure Centre.

ISLINGTON middleweight Michael Watson makes a bold
attempt to leap from nondescript eight round class to the
fringes of world contention when he takes on American
southpaw Dangerous Don Lee in the 10-rounds main event
at Wembley Grand Hall on Wednesday.

CANADIAN boxers seem to be enjoying a good deal of
success at the moment. Don Lalonde and Matthew Hilton
have won world titles. Razor Ruddock could land a shot at
Mike Tyson, Willie Featherstone holds the Commonwealth
light-heavyweight title and Michael Olajide is still in the
middleweight picture despite his loss to Frank Tate.
Admittedly, Shawn O'Sullivan is already fading and Willie
De Wit is static, but this could be more than compensated
for by a successful return by Dave Hilton.

UNBEATEN DUKE MCKENZIE has been
ordered to defend his European flvweight title
against AGAPITO GOMEZ of Spain.
McKenzie, from Croydon, had originally
been told to put his crown on the line against
British champion Dave McAuley, but the
Larne man has now withdrawn from the
contest.
