WEIGHT seems to be a topical subject in boxin just now.
We had the saga of Sot Chitalada's struggle to make the
weight against Yongkang Kim, Howard Davis shedding
141bs in three weeks to challenge Buddy McGirt, and we
had the weigh-in for the Tate vs Nunn fight on the day
before the fight.

MORTSHARNIK, Marlon Starling's advisor, is unlikely
to get a fair deal from the WBA despite the
commendable lead set by New Jersey Commissioner
Larry Hazzard in declaring Starling's after-bell knockout
by Tomas Molinares a "no contest".
The WBA, in a show of quite unbelievable insensitivity,
have named Molinares their "Fighter of the
Month", thus adding insult to injury. Such a tainted
victory did not deserve to be recognised, let alone
honoured.

DISPUTED decisions are part and
parcel of the business. One oceured at
the Inglewood Forum, Los Angeles
when Honolulu's Jesus Salud lost a split
10-round decision to Carlos Romero, of
Venezuela, in their super-bantam (8st
101b) tournament semi-final seen on
cable TV.

NEW JERSEY boxing commissioner Larry Hazzard last week
announced he has voided the decision in the controversial World
Boxing Association welterweight title fight in which Marlon Starling
was knocked out by Tomas Molinares with an after-the-bell blow at
Atlantic City on July 29.

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN — August 12: Veteran
heavyweight Renaldo Snipes pulled off a sensational win in
yet another fight controversy when he stopped South
African hope Johnny Du Plooy in the seventh of their
scheduled 10-rounder at the Eagles Club.

IT WAS on one of Rocky Marciano's visits to Britain. I had
the pleasure of escorting him on a tour of the London gyms,
and we were moving around at a fairly fast pace, so that he
could adhere to his schedule, when he suddenly said to me:
"I like the look of that kid sparring over there." That 'kid'
was former Liverpool middleweight Pat Dwyer.

ENGLAND bantamweight Paul Ramsay and
Welsh light-welter Michael Smyth restored
some of British amateur boxing's pride when
they both won bronze medals in the European
junior championships.
