GIANTKILLER Del Bryan, a real outsider
as British title material a year ago, gets the
reward for his recent successes when he is
matched against Scot Gary Jacobs in a
10-rounds welterweight eliminator on the
British lightweight title undercard.

ROCHDALE'S Kevin Taylor gets a surprise chance to win a
British title when he meets Welshman Peter Harris for the vacant
featherweight crown at the Swansea Leisure Centre on Wednesday
(February 24).

DAVE DENT, who surprisingly lost his unbeaten record last time
out, got back with a win by halting Frenchman Rodolphe Lavouiray
in t h e fifth of a scheduled eight-threes at the National Sporting Club,
Grosvenor House.

FORMER amateur star Mark Fairman, now boxing at
featherweight, looked distinctly lucky to take referee Larry
O'Connell's verdict over Luton's Stuart Fishermac in the
rearranged eight-twos main event on Gary Davidson's
show.

CENTRAL Area lightweight champion Joey Jacobs gets
the opportunity to secure a shot at the British title when he
meets Scotsman Ian McLeod in a final eliminator at the
Oldham Sports Centre on Tuesday (February 23). It's a
Fight Night show.

GEORGE FOREMAN'S comeback continued with
another win but I found myself having serious doubts after
his laboured victory over the pudgy, hairy Italian champ
Guido Trane on ESPN from Las Vegas.
The much smaller Trane was getting licked when stopped
because of a cut eye in the fifth, but he'd shown just how
easy it is to hit Foreman on the chin.

NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Belfast middleweight Ray
Close, a 90 seconds victim of England's Henry Wharton in
his last international in November, wiped out that painful
memory as he emerged one of Ireland's three winners
against Poland, who took the match 6-3.
Employing a fine, accurate left jab, Irish senior champion
Close opened cautiously against Dariusz Banaski, but
picked up the pace as his confidence grew and was a clear
points winner.
