IT'S the last chance for long-serving Tony Sibson
as he hopes for the third time lucky against IBF
world middleweight champion Frank Tate at the
Bingley Hall, Stafford, on Sunday.
Sibson, a pro for nearly 12 years, has already
challenged unsuccessfully for world titles on two
occasions and though young in a chronological
sense at 29, is a veteran athlete. He starts an
underdog against the polished American titleholder
but banks o n speed and the ferocious power of
his left hook.

THE old Borough Hall was the scene of a double
coronation as veterans Ken Foreman and Jeff Decker
were crowned northern Area champions at lightmiddlewight
and light-welterweight respectively, much
to t h e delight of a wildly enthusiastic and partisan crowd
at this Gus Robinson promotion.

TORQUAY welterweight JULIAN
BOUSTEAD scored an
emphatic comeback win over
Doncaster's GARY WILLIAMS
as pro-boxing returned
to South Devon for the first time
since 1979.

PECKHAM'S Derrick "Sweet D" Williams took another
step up the domestic heavyweight ladder when he outscored
Dave Garside of Hartlepool in the 10 round main
event at York Hall.
The show, promoted by Mike Barrett and Mickey Duff,
was televised as part of BBC Grandstand's Young
Prospects of 1988 and while the Londoner emerged a clear
winner on the scorecard of referee Roy Francis, 99-97'/2, he
did not impress.

TWO fighters who put on one of the
toughest tussles of 1987 go at it again
tomorrow (Saturday) at Atlantic City
when Vinny Pazienza defends his International
Boxing Federation lightweight
title against former champion Greg
Haugen.
The rematch, to be televised live by
the ABC network in America, has been
eagerly awaited since the last 15-rounder
between the two last June.
