Now Mormeck's out
• DON KING'S New York pay-per-view card on October
2, featuring Felix Trinidad against Ricardo Mayorga in
the main event, had already seen Jose Rivera pull out
injured from a 'WBA welterweight title' defence against
Thomas Damgaard because of injury.
Last week Jean-Marc Mormeck of France bailed
out of his WBA/WBC cruise rweighf title showdown
with Wayne Braithwaite because of an ankle injury.
It's not known for how long Mormeck will be sidelined
(it's possible the match will be postponed to November
13), but Rivera has had surgery on a tendon to repair
his right thumb. He will be in a cast for one month.
TKO Tenerife
• JOHNNY EAMES has taken on a gym in Tenerife. The
cockney trainer said: "It's above a property owned by a
friend and we're going to call it the TKO Gym Tenerife
[Eames runs the TKO Gym in Shadwell, East London].
"It's a superb place with everything - four apartments
for people to stay in, 14ft ring and so on.
"We're going to use it as a training camp for title
fights, but will also let it out to other camps. It's

Robbie jailed
• FORMER two-weight 'world' champ Robbie Regan
has been jailed for 18 months after pleading guilty at
Newport Crown Court to assault occasioning actual
bodily harm. The Welshman, 36, attacked a couple in
their Bargoed home in April.
Two friends were also jailed for offences committed
during the incident.
Clubs link up
• MICKEY HELLIET'S Mayfair Sporting Club and the
National Sporting Club have joined forces to promote
four dinner shows at the Cafe Royal in London.
Their first will be on November 4 and is in support
of Colin Dunne's ex-boxers' charity Triumph Over
Adversity. Dunne, a former WBU lightweight
champion, will be guest of honour.
• FORMER ABA featherweight
champion Kevin Mitchell, now a
rising pro with Sports Network,
went back to to his amateur roots
when he was guest of honour at
St Gerard's ABC in Chichester,
Sussex last month.
Fair and square
• THE day after the Olympics ended,
French sports daily L'Equipe carried an
interesting interview with Michel Baudel,
member of AlBA's Appeals Commission
in Athens. "We examined a dozen appeals
[against decisions]," Baudel said.
"But we didn't overturn any decision.
In fact, all the verdicts were within the
rules. We watched in slow motion tapes
of the bouts and counted the blows, but
had the same winner."
