Hatton foe named
• RICKY HATTON'S opponent on June 12 at the MEN
Arena, Manchester will be another Argentine, Carlos
Wilfredo Vilches, a 27-year-old from Santa Rosa.
Last year Hatton demolished tough lightweight Aldo
Rios, also Argentinian.
Originally, Sports Network announced last Monday
Hatton would be defending his WBU light-welterweight
title against unbeaten Brazilian Antonio Mesquita.
Within hours it was Vilches, who is more experienced.
Neither, however, is in the league of Sharmba
Mitchell, the American who fought on the same card
as Hatton in April and wanted to face the Mancunian.
In fact, Vilches was stopped in four by Mitchell in
Atlantic City in 2003. He was also stopped, albeit on
cuts, by quality journeyman Emanuel Burton.
From 48 fights, Vilches has 41 wins, 25 inside. He is
a former Argentine and South American champion.

Dixon: I was left for dead
• THE career of former Commonwealth welterweight champion SCOTT DIXON looks in
serious doubt after he was kidnapped and stabbed while walking home in Hamilton, south
Lanarkshire.
Dixon, like Eamonn Magee - who was attacked several months ago in Belfast - is
recovering in hospital (Hairmyres, East Kilbride) with extensive injuries.
He was reportedly dragged from the street by four men, put in a red Ford car, stabbed
several times, pinned down and had both legs broken.
Scott, 27, said: "I was left for dead. The people who did this at least made sure my
boxing career was at an end."
Police have launched an appeal for information. We wish Scott a speedy recovery.

Arthur-Docherty?
• SCOTS Alex Arthur and Craig Docherty are on a
potential collision course after being nominated to
contest the vacant British super-featherweight title.
The title became vacant when Michael Gomez had
to automatically relinquish on winning the WBU belt.
But will Arthur and Commonwea th champ Docherty
ever meet? Both have different promoters, Sports
Network and Tommy Gilmour respectively, though they
have worked together when needed.
But Docherty is also official challenger to European
champion Boris Sinitsin of Russia.
Purse bids or contracts must be in at Board head
office by midday June 9.

Dann-Bendall
• SCOTT DANN has been given the green light to take
on official challenger Steve Bendall for the British
middleweight title vacated by Howard Eastman.
Contracts or purse bids for the all-southpaw match
must reach the Board's head office by midday on June
9 with the bout to take place by the end of September.

Skelton gets Long
• MATT SKELTON hopes to continue his remarkably
speedy rise when he makes a voluntary defence of the
British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles against
former challenger Keith Long on June 5 at York Hall.
It's a crunch match for Skelton now that he is lined
up to meet Audley Harrison in October, reportedly on a
pay-per-view event on Sky.
Skelton has vacated the English title he held before
defeating Michael Sprott last month.
