Winky blow
• TYPICALLY, with Ronald "Winky" Wright
having unified the light-middleweight division
by convincingly outpointing Shane Mosley on
Saturday, governing body politics are striving to
split the belts.
The alphabet boys have imposed demands on
Wright that makes it impossible for him to remain
unified champion.
The WBC have said Wright has 10 days to
confirm in writing he will defend against Spain's
former champion Javier Castillejo.
Likewise, the WBA have said Wright must
make his first defence against Travis Simms.
while the IBF insist it has to be versus Kassim
Ouma.

Promoter Roe?
P MARK ROE, better known as a trainer, has
applied for a promoter's licence in a bid to bring
boxing back to the Kent/south-east London area.
The burly cornerman said there hasn't been
much action in his neck of the woods for many
years but is optimistic - with a stable of good
ticket-sellers - he can generate interest.
Similarly, Kevin Sanders is going to give
promoting another go in Peterborough.
His April 8 dinner show at the Moat House
Hotel has already sold out.
"I've got some good young lads," he said. "All
220 tickets went within a few days. I'm going to
promote here in June, September and November
and probably stick to dinner shows for the next
18 months before putting on a public bill."

Jennings tops
• THE next Fight Skool show on Sky
Sports is at York Hall, Bethnal Green on
April 1 and features two title fights.
Topping is unbeaten Chorley welter
Michael Jennings defending his WBU
International belt against Brett James.
Supporting is a solid vacant Southern
Area bantamweight title bout between
Martin Power and James Yelland.
The Sports Network card will also see
the reappearance of Kevin Lear, former
WBU super-feather champ who has been
sidelined with a shoulder injury. The
Jennings fight was originally on the MEN
Arena Ricky Hatton bill two days later.

Dazzo order
I DAZZO WILLIAMS, British featherweight
champion, has been ordered to defend against
former title-holder Roy Rutherford before the end
of June.
Williams narrowly outpointed Rutherford to win
the title in Belfast last November and last month
retained against former champ Jamie McKeever.
Respective managers and promoters have until
April 14 to reach agreement, otherwise purse bids
will be called.

Gainer signed
I DERRICK GAINER, shockingly bad when losing
his WBA featherweight title to Juan Manuel
Marquez by technical decision last November,
hasn't completely destroyed his credibility.
Warrior Boxing, the Florida-based promoters,
are poised to add "Smoke" to their growing
stable.

New Gomez foe
I MICHAEL GOMEZ now fights Ghanaian
southpaw Eric Odumasi for the vacant WBU
super-feather title at the MEN Arena on April 3,
when Ricky Hatton tops against Kelson Pinto.
Originally, after Kevin Lear was stripped of
the belt, Gomez was matched with Welshman
Gavin Rees.
But Rees pulled out with a hand injury, leaving
the door open for Odumasi, who is based in the
UK and previously fought Patrick Mullings and
Scott Harrison in Commonwealth featherweight
title bouts.
