Wayne responds
• WAYNE ALEXANDER is not back in training yet
but said he will be ready to fight again by the end
of August and isn't shying away f r om rival Takaloo,
who called him out on these pages last week.
"I want the fight," said Wayne. "My injury [which
forced their May fight to be called off] was genuine.
"It's a good fight and one I can win. All this talk
from him that I don't fancy it is rubbish.
" I 'm sure I can beat him and move on to better
things. The Ring had a section in their magazine on
fighters 'On the way out' and Takaloo was one of them.
"When I beat him he'll definitely be out. I've still got
three or four years left. I'm a young 30. But make it
clear I'll fight Takaloo."
Tyson walkover on
• MIKE TYSON'S walkover against big Irishman Kevin
McBride will end up at the Freedom Hall, Louisville on
July 30 (brought forward a day so as not to coincide
with Bob Arum's July 31 Erik Morales-Carlos
Hernandez super-featherweight title showdown).
Tyson's licence in Kentucky has been renewed. The
pay-per-view bill is to be shown on Showtime in the
US.
Manager Shelly Finkel confirmed talks had taken
place relating to an agreement with Tony "Tycoon"
Brown working with Tyson. Brown is an associate of
Don King's.
Finkel also said a Tyson-Antonio Tarver fight was
also a genuine possibility down the road.
Power's big chance
• IT is a serious step up for unbeaten Martin Power
when he takes on Noel Wilders for the British
bantamweight title made vacant when Nicky Booth
was jailed. Purse bids are set for July 14. Southpaw
Wilders is a former holder of this title as well as the
IBO and European.
Dodson doubt
• TONY DODSON'S status as British super-middleweight
champion is to be considered by the Boxing
Board at their next meeting (July 14) following the
Liverpudlian's withdrawal against official challenger
Carl Froch earlier this month.
It was the second time Dodson had pulled out. First
he suffered a broken nose sparring and then, more
recently, was involved in a car accident.
Beyer rematch
• IT appears Italy's CRISTIAN
SANAVIA will give MARKUS BEYER
a rematch following their 12-
rounder in Chemnitz on June 5.
Sanavia beat the German on points.
By all accounts Beyer wasn't at
the races, looking like a shadow of his
former self, though it was still close on
the scorecards.
While some expected Beyer to retire,
it appears he will get a second chance.
That will be on a Wilfried Sauerland
promotion following the Olympics.
Sauerland reportedly took out
options on Sanavia's next four fights
if the Italian won, so really the rematch
is no surprise.
