COLIN WILSON, 42-year-old trainer of former
British super-feather champ PJ Gallagher, is doing
a "sparathon" on February 22 at north London's
Kronk Gym.
It consists of 50 three-minute rounds and
Gallagher says: "That's amazing".
Colin has always kept in excellent shape and
will need to be for this venture.
He is raising money for Colin Dunne's new
charity, Triumph Over Adversity, and partners will
include Takaloo, who trains at the gym anyway,
Dunne, Duke McKenzie, James Cook, Spencer
Oliver, Sky's Ed Robinson and Adam Smith,
Gallagher, you name it.
Wilson, apparently a good amateur out of St
Pancras ABC in his day, says he doesn't want
anybody to go lightly on him, either.
It should be a lot of fun and Colin deserves a
good turnout.

Nunn's long stretch
TWO former champions to fall foul of the law
face lengthy prison terms. Michael Nunn,
superbly talented former 'world' middle and supermiddleweight
champ, was sentenced to 24 years
for trafficking cocaine.
William Joppy, who retired after losing on
points to Bernard Hopkins for the world
middleweight title in December, faces a possible
10 years if convicted of assault charges.
The Maryland boxer allegedly caused serious
damage to a man trying to repossess his minivan.

Sendra not
impressed
• JORGE SENDRA, the Spaniard
originally lined up to challenge
Howard Eastman here, wasn't
particularly impressed with him
as he watched from ringside.
"It was boring," said the toughlooking
contender. "He was very
average. Had it not been for the
Russian's lack of fitness, there
might have been a surprise.
"I had the Russian three points
ahead going into the seventh and
Howard winning the last six. I
scored 117-114 for Eastman.
"Eastman would never hold my
pace."
Incidentally, Sendra said he pulled
out against Eastman because of
damaged ribs and not a bad hand.

Koczak cruise
VIENNA, Austria - January 25
B Former IBO and European super-bantam
title challenger Sandor Koczak of Hungary
ticked over with a unanimous six-round points
victory over recent Kevin Mitchell stoppage
victim Vlado Varhegyi.
The little Slovak veteran, having his fourth
fight since losing to Mitchell last November,
was down in the first.

Sulaiman dodges real issue
• WBC president Jose Sulaiman hit back at those who criticised Gianluca
Branco for being mandatory contender going into his fight with Arturo Gatti
for the "WBC light-welter title" late last month.
Sulaiman issued a statement saying: "I'm very proud of this vacant title
fight. Branco's performance shut a lot of mouths."
Fair enough, Gianluca did box well in defeat, but funny how Jose didn't go
into the farce that is both the WBC and WBA having TWO world champs.
There are some things you can't explain.
Kostya Tszyu is regarded as the real champ at 10st.

HATFIELD - January 23 FINCHLEY'S first open show
of the season was a spectacular
sell-out success
at the De Havilland's
Sports and Social Club.
Scores were unable to gain entry for a
15-bout programme put together by comp
sec Joe Smythe Snr and which saw nine
Finchley boxers in action.
That included four who had won on the
club's annual trips to Las Vegas: Bobby
Gladman, Mehmet Mehmet, Greg Barton
and Tony Miltch.
First up for the hosts was MICHAEL
VASSILIOU, who outpointed Luton
Shamrock's J. BYRNES in a very tough
contest.
