ROBERTO DURAN crowned one of the ring's great comebacks by crushing Davey Moore in
eight rounds to win the WBA light-middleweight title last week. It was Duran's third championship
- and he won it in the same Madison Square Garden ring where he took his first title 11
years ago. See pages 2-3.

ANOTHER of those tall hit men out of Detroit blasted his
way onto the world centre stage as Jimmy Paul hammered
Andy Ganigan in six rounds at Phoenix, Arizona on June 12
to win the vacant United States Boxing Association lightweight
title.
"Bring on Boom Boom," said Paul, referring to the WBA
champion, Ray Mancini. "I'd be glad to fight him anytime."
But Paul will have to get in line. Boom Boom's in big
demand and after a mandatory WBA title defence is expected
to meet Howard Davis or Aaron Pryor.
But the 23-year-old Paul, born in North Carolina, looks as
if he's arrived to stay and can't be ignored.

PARIS - June 13: Hard-hitting French light-heavyweight
Rufino Angulo scored the best win of his career when he
hammered Australian veteran Tony Mundine into countout
defeat in the fifth of their scheduled 10-rounder at the
Coubertin stadium.

UNBEATEN banger Jaime Garza of Los Angeles blasted his way to
the vacant WBC super-bantam tide as he came off the floor to crush
Bobby Berna of the Philippines in the second round of a short but
sensational fight scheduled for 12 rounds at the Olympic Auditorium.

JOHN L. GARDNER, the former undefeated British and
European heavyweight champion, has decided to return to
the ring after a two-year absence. He will be managed by
Greg Steene, who has also signed up British lightheavyweight
contender Dennis Andries.
Steene intends to take Gardner to America for the summer,
where New York matchmaker Teddy Brenner has
lined up a couple of fights for him at Madison Square
Garden. The plan is for Gardner to get a couple of wins
under his belt in the States and then return to Britain for the
new season and challenge British champ Neville Meade.
