MANCHESTER welterweight LEE
HARTSHORN continued his successful
comeback in his third fight in as many
months with a narrow points verdict over
ERROL DENNIS of Wolverhampton in
the top of the bill eight rounder at the AASC,
Manchc iter.

IRISH southpaw Hugh Russell has an excellent chance of winning the British
bantamweight title when he challenges champion John Feeney at the Ulster Hall,
Belfast on Tuesday.
The fight takes place over 15 rounds, despite the British Board's recent decision to
reduce the number of rounds in domestic title fights to 12 in line with some other
bodies including Jose Sulaiman's World Boxing Council organisation.

THE WBA are reported to have ordered a rematch between
Mike Dokes and Mike Weaver, but this has not yet been
confirmed. However, Don King has said that if the WBA do
issue such an order they will have to find another promoter
as he is not interested in staging any return.

COLIN JONES, European and Commonwealth welterweight
champion, has struck the kind of bonanza champions,
let alone challengers, dream of when he receives US
$408,500 for disputing the vacant WBC crown with black
American Milton McCrory.

BUCHANAN vs. Dave Charnley? Slight edge to Buchanan:
at least, the vintage Buchanan of 1970-71 would probably
have had enough speed, accuracy and general mobility to
stand a chance of a points win. The rather slower, less
accurate and more pedestrian version we saw bow out after a
defeat by George Feeney last year would not come into
consideration. But Buchanan was exemplary in his day. He
lost only one fight in his first 44 pro contests over a period of
seven and a half years from 1965. Using his great pace and
lightning hand speed, Buchanan took the British lightweight
tide from Maurice Cullen in 1968, but lost to the European
champion, Miguel Velazquez in Madrid in 1970.
