THE YEAR which promised so much for Keith Wallace
ended in despair as Antoine Montero, a rugged
little French southpaw, hammered him to painful
defeat in eight rounds at the Bloomsbury Crest Hotel
to retain his European flyweight title.
The end came at 2:34 of the eighth, with Wallace
being counted out on his feet by Dutch referee Karel
Klijnool.

BEST fight on the Spinks-Rivadeneyra bill saw Vancouver
middleweight prospect Michael Olajide, 19, won a majority eight
round decision over Stacey McSwain, a tough younstger out of
North Carolina. Mike's dad is Ola Michael, the former pro
lightweight and welter from Nigeria who compaigned in Britain.
Mike moved well and has a good left hook. He dropped
McSwain in the first but faded a bit andf was down himself in the
sixth, though I thought he deserved to win. Mike's now won eight
in a row, seven stopped or KO'd.

Mugabi's big date
THE big punching light-middleweight bout between world
tide contender JOHN MUGABI and JAMES "HARD
ROCK" GREEN is being negotiated for American TV for
early 1984.
Main Event Inc which promotes, told Boxing News last
week that the fight is in the talking stage. Main Event
spokesman Ray Nicosia said: "The fight is a natural
