DENNIS ANDRIES and Keith Bristol meet over 10
rounds at Porchester Hall, Queensway on Thursday in a
final eliminator for the British light-heavyweight title held
by Tom Collins. Andries' Southern Area title is also at stake.
This is a return contest, Andries having successfully defended
his Southern Area title against Bristol, convincingly
outpointing him over 10 rounds last August. Bristol was
floored twice and well beaten, although he has come back
well from the defeat.
BRITISH and Commonwealth middlweight champion
Roy Gumbs warms up for his forthcoming official title
defence against Mark Kaylor with a 10-rounder against
black American Jerry Holly at the Bloomsbury Crest
Hotel on Wednesday.
Holly, from Orlando in Florida, had been scheduled to
meet Gumbs at this venue last September but was forced to
pull out with an injured rib. By all accounts, he looks to be
the boxer type, very tall for l 1 s t 61bs but lacking the real
strength and durability needed to survive in top class.
WITH Britain's Tony Sibson hammered and
humbled, Marvin Hagler, undisputed middleweight
champion of the world, turns his attention to the next
upstart challenger like some menacing Black Knight
of yore preparing to crush a pretender in the lists.
GOOD middleweight Eddie Smith keeps his
comeback going with a tough match against
Peckham's James Cook in the eight threes main
event on Brian Robinson's good value show at
Belle Vue, Manchester, on Monday.
Smith came back with an unfortunate match when
he met unbeaten Mark Kaylor, following a long layoff
due to a road accident and was stopped.
