HONEYGHAN of Bermondsey
looks British championship
material following his four round
destruction of Forest Hill's SID
SMITH to win the Southern
Area welterweight title, writes
ANTHONY CONNOLLY. The
fight, scheduled for 10 rounds,
was also an official eliminator for
the British title.
scheduled for 10 rounds, was also

FRANK BRUNO bumped the asking price for the Joe
Bugner showdown up yet further with a stunningly good
performance against the dangerous Winston Allen in the
scheduled 10 rounds main event at the Albert Hall, writes
HARRY MULLAN.
Allen, a black Welshman boxing on St David's Day,
turned away in defeat after one minute 25 seconds of thq
second. Officially, referee James Brimmell had intervened
to save him from further punishment, but Allen's action
made it plain that he intended taking no further part in the
proceedings.
DENNIS ANDRIES of Hackney retained his Southern
Area light-heavyweight title for the second time by knocking
out Stoke Newington's Karl Canwell in the fourth of a
scheduled 10 rounds main event at the Lyceum.
The fight was also a British title eliminator and Andries
now goes on to meet old opponent Keith Bristol in a final
eliminator for Tom Collins' British crown.
BRITISH light-heavyweight champion Tom Collins
(Leeds) defends against Antonio Harris (Birmingham) in
the top-liner at the Midland Sporting Club, Solihull on
Wednesday. The two finally get together, after two previous
meetings were cancelled when Collins pulled out on each
occasion due to a damaged knuckle. But the fight is now
rather tarnished with Harris
losing a warm-up to Keith
Bristol recently .
ALEXIS ARGUELLO, former undefeated world champ at three weights, now boxing at
light-welter, won a unanimous 10-round decision over VILOMAR FERNANDEZ to
avenge a previous loss.
The win also served as a tune-Up for the 30-year-old Arguello, lined up for a rematch
with Aaron Pryor for the WBA light-welterweight title in the summer.
The fight with Fernandez was Arguello's first since he was stopped in the 14th round
by Pryor last November and also his first since giving up the WBC lightweight title due to
weight problems. He did not seem quite as sharp as usual against Fernandez and missed
with a lot of punches against an elusive opponent who kept on the move.
