Ricardo lowdown
ITALIAN reader Massimo Ricci sent me an e-mail last
week on the subject of Ricardo "Finito" Lopez to
clear a long-held misconception.
He said: "Please note that contrary to common
thought his nickname does not mean 'finished' or
'over', but is the Spanish word for 'little slim boy'."
Top Rank want to match Lopez against WBA
flyweight champion Eric Morel.

Graciano can afford it!
GRACIANO ROCCHIGIANI, the German southpaw who
won a massive claim against the World Boxing
Council last month, was on October 17 sentenced to
four months' probation for injuring a police officer while
resisting arrest.
Rocchigiani is already serving one year in prison in
Berlin for another offence. He was also ordered to
pay the officer substantial damages.

Potter eyes Jacobs
HEAVYWEIGHT contender Mark Potter has
signed for the Robert Waterman and Jim Evans
camp. He may box Jacklord Jacobs at Bethnal
Green on December 3.
Whether the match happens will depend on
Jacobs' suspect shoulder, which he dislocated
when losing in Las Vegas earlier this year, being
given the OK by doctors.

Olajide agony
TOKUNBO OLAJIDE, the New York light-middle
puncher who lost his unbeaten record in a
stunning upset (see page 15), needed emergency
surgery on an ankle right after the fight.
Olajide dislocated the right ankle when knocked
down. It was re-set before he went to hospital for
x-rays. Doctors then inserted two screws and a
metal plate in the ankle, which will be in a cast for
six weeks.
The boxer then faces between two and three
months physio and is unlikely to box again for
about six months.
