Warren cleared
FRANK WARREN and his company Sports
Network were this week cleared in
London's High Court of charges brought
against him by Grimsby promoter Mike Dalton,
who claimed he was forced to cancel a show
he had tried to stage at Butlin's in April 1997.
The judge could find no evidence to support
Dalton's allegations Warren had "unlawfully
interfered" with the promotion in Skegness.
Dalton, who wanted £50,000 in damages,
also alleged Warren had applied pressure on
both the managers of the boxers who were to
appear on his bill and the Board to withdraw its
sanctioning of the event on medical grounds.
Again, these claims could not be proved.
The judge said Dalton's estimate in damages
could be no greater than £1,500 and that the
evidence he had heard satisfied him the Board
had reached its conclusions independently.
GALLANT ALLAN GRAY won a pro
title at the fourth attempt, outscoring
old rival ALAN GILBERT
over 10 tremendous rounds to take the
vacant Southern Area middleweight crown
at the Elephant & Castle Leisure Centre.
A STUNNING left hook from One Nation ABC's ELVIS DUBE provided a quick
finish in Mansfield, writes LEE SIGGS.
A packed Forest Town Miners' Welfare was the venue for Mansfield ABC's first show of 2002, and the crowd witnessed
a sensational final bout from Derby boxer Dube against Wayne Norgate (Phoenix). Dube raced out of his corner in the
opening round and worked away solidly to Norgate's body.
When the boxers separated, Elvis landed with a right cross and left hook which had Wayne out cold before he hit the
canvas. The action could have been going for only 15 seconds.
Wayne attempted to get up straight away but was badly shaken. The referee and ringside doctor Dean Temple kept him
down.
COVENTRY super-featherweight Dean Pithie (9st 9lbs) is
r \ hoping for a crack at Commonwealth champion Alex Moon
this summer and if it happens will presumably be sharper than he
was in working his way to a six-round decision over Nottingham's
Nigel Senior (9st 10lbs) on the Skydome bill.
Pithie looked good in patches and overall outworked his 39-
year-old opponent. He got involved in a wrestling match too much
at times and in the second the mauling threatened to get out of
hand.
Dean settled down again and when he stuck to his boxing was
the superior talent.
However, in the fourth Senior landed a fast right uppercut and
Pithie touched down with his glove, shaken up.
Strangely, referee Dean Bramhald ruled it a slip instead of
counting. When they resumed Pithie backed off, moving and holding
until his head cleared.
